Tea and cupcakes

We have had so many enquiries about the gorgeous cupcakes on this week's homepage at meeboutique.com that we felt we really must share the details with you. They are from the most fabulous cupcake company, Le Cupcake, in Australia. So if you're lucky enough to live in on the other side of the world, then do pay them a visit. However, if like us you're in the northern hemisphere, you'll just have to be content with looking at their website at lecupcake.com.au.

Happy drooling!

Cheap fashion - bargain or kiss of death?

Now don’t get us wrong. The girls at Mee love nothing more than a bargain, especially when it comes to fashion. TopShop, H&M, Zara, we love them all. However, while a bargain is all well and good, where it does leave designers and independent boutiques, especially when the top magazines seem to be constantly endorsing the high street, and telling us to shop at Primark?

Designers work hard to maintain the prestige of their brands. The quality of the fabrics, the workmanship, and the exclusivity justify the higher price tag. When the high street directly copy these designs, and then promotes them in the top magazines, how can up-and-coming designers possibly stay in business? Since when did Warehouse, Topshop and Mango start advertising in Vogue? Surely they should be supporting British fashion at its true core, not giving in because of lucrative sponsorship deals.

The fashion and retail industry is competitive enough, and increasingly difficult, especially when these magazines are telling our customers to shop on the high street. What happened to promoting designer fashion AND the high street, something British fashion has been famous for? Instead, it’s now about where to buy a whole outfit for under £50.

Where will it all end? Every town will look the same, there will be no independent boutiques or small businesses, and we will end up a nation of clones, all wearing the same £10 dress from Primark and £5 shoes from New Look.

It's a crime

Dishonesty and fraud is not usually something Mee Girl has to worry her head about. She pays her tax, she doesn’t steal, and she rarely tells lies. But when somebody tries it on at Mee, quite frankly, it gets right up our nose.

Our Lara Bohinc jewellery is beautiful, there’s no question about that. And it’s expensive. So when we received an order for a necklace and a few other items at meeboutique.com, they were packaged up beautifully as always, and sent off.

It was when five more orders came flooding through the next day, that LOUD alarm bells went off. We can only assume the culprits are using stolen credit cards, as they all had different names but were to be sent to the same address. Very suspect indeed. Fortunately, we haven’t sent any more orders out, and we’re now on high alert.

Mee is a small business, and to be targeted by criminals and taken advantage of, makes us sick to the stomach. So, if they're reading this, and you know who you are, STOP IT!

Easter shopping

Spring is here at last, and the sun is shining, so if you fancy a bit of Easter shopping, the girls at Mee are ready and raring to go. The boutique is filled to the brim and at bursting point.

We've got this summer's dress of the season, the maxi, in glorious floral prints from Libelula, and Aussie label, Madame Marie. Silk, chiffon, cotton, beaded, or embroidered kaftans from Melissa Odabash and Juliet Dunn, fabulous shopping baskets adorned with shell charms, sexy bikinis, pretty sequinned sun dresses from Mee's own label, as well as our brand new cotton undies. Long wide 'Joplin' pants from J Brand that look fabulous with this spring's wedges, lace-trimmed T-shirts, and our famous floral tea dresses from Legacy in New York, have just this minute arrived, as well as our bestselling Votivo candles in delicious red currant, honeysuckle, and Moroccan fig.

And if the thought of all this shopping makes you ravenous, there'll be a huge bowl of creme eggs on the counter for all to indulge!
